Dr. Marcia McFee is a professor, worship designer, author, preacher and ritual artist. Her first career was in professional theater, music, and dance in major companies that toured the world. She brings all of that, combined with a Master’s in Theology and a PhD in Worship and Ethics to her ministry of designing, leading, and teaching about meaningful and memorable worship for over 30 years. In that time she has traveled extensively, worked with numerous Protestant mainline denominations (UMC, UCC, MCC, DOC, PCUSA, ELCA, UU, etc.), has designed and led worship at the local church level as well as regional, national, and international conferences. Dr. McFee has taught at 14 different seminaries and held hundreds of workshops in the US and Canada, as well as other countries.
Dr. McFee’s latest research is about the impact awe and wonder can have on our spiritual wellbeing. Connecting worship professionals and volunteers to their passion and depth of spiritual leadership is Dr. Marcia’s aim in teaching and consulting as well as equipping them with skills to carry this out. She travels extensively, speaking, teaching, and leading retreats. Dr. McFee has designed and led worship for regional, national and international gatherings of several denominations for the last 30+ years. She is the creator and visionary of the Worship Design Studio, an online experience of coaching, education, inspiration has served thousands of congregations over the last 15 years. She is the author of The Worship Workshop, a workbook for worship teams and, as an avid skier, wrote Spiritual Adventures in the Snow: Skiing and Snowboarding as Renewal for Your Soul. Her third book, Think Like a Filmmaker: Sensory-Rich Worship for Unforgettable Messages, has become a best-seller and is utilized by churches and seminaries all over the world. Her new Purveyors of Awe: Elements for Curating a Life of Spiritual Depth Guided Study and Journal is the basis for her most recent research, teaching, and speaking.
