Take an unforgettable journey with Marcia McFee, PhD
Perfect for:
• spiritual renewal wrapped in adventure
• discerning next steps along your journey
• renewal leave, sabbatical, or continuing education (CEU’s available)
Next journey date: September 2028
Please note: This is not a “regular” tour to “see the sites” (although you will see some of the most classic and important sites of Ireland). This is a pilgrimage with time for guided conversations with guest experts curated for you in significant locations. This is an experience for women who desire a deeply meaningful and one-of-a kind experience–full of “site-being” rather than simply “site-seeing.” You will indicate your interest and we will have an interview session with you to make sure this trip is right for you.
Check out the agenda and details below and then e-mail marcia@marciamcfee.com to let us know you are interested in applying for September 2028.
Please note physical aspects of this trip: a couple of times our adventures will require walking on uneven ground and up and down hills, about 2 miles at a stretch. Accommodations can be made but you will be able to participate most fully in all the aspects of this trip if this amount of physical activity is possible for you.
CREATOR
We begin with a time and a people whose lives were accompanied by the goddess, creator, out of whose womb we were birthed and through whose tomb we are re-birthed. What new rhythms are being birthed in you?
We arrive and begin the pilgrimage to the Boyne Valley, land of Stone Age pre-Celtic ritual passageways, immersing ourselves in the mystery of County Meath. We celebrate and dine together this first night and immerse ourselves in a candlelit threshold moment. The next two days include time at the burial passage tombs of Newgrange and ritual grounds such as the rock of the goddess Eiru and time with a scholar, archeologist, and druid priestess.
BADASS
We continue to the West of Ireland, to the Wild Atlantic that the badass 16th century pirate queen Grace O’Malley sailed. We learn of Irish women who broke the social norms of their day with courage and tenacity in order to protect the least. We are spurred to reflect upon our own essential “fiercity” as we navigate the waters of this turbulent world. How are you part of the bold legacy of women in this world?
This quintessential coastal town is home to some of the best music in Ireland. You can opt for a pilgrimage hike up the sacred “Croagh Patrick” mountain. We’ll have two nights to eat the amazing food of this town and enjoy pub visits for music to fill the soul.
SAINT
Through valleys that remember famine’s cruel legacy…
… on to the mystical traditions in the land of cliffs and holy wells where we turn to the wisdom and inspiration of women saints. What legacy of wisdom are you cultivating?
In the mystical lands of the Burren, we move to our third home in the pilgrimage, the coastal town of Spanish Point where we will acknowledge the women saints, particularly St. Brigid. This woman who took the name of a pre-Celtic goddess is revered as much as St. Patrick for her wondrous works and legacy of wisdom and compassion and work for the oppressed. Our conversation partners will deepen our engagement with women mystics during this time at Doolin, Spanish Point, Brigid’s Well and the Cliffs of Moher.
FINALE
What will we carry back with us from the thin places? After three stops to engage the three female archetypes, we will move to the Wicklow mountains to take in all we have experienced. Our final time of reflection is rich as we stay together onsite at Glendalough, site of a 7th century monastery and a perfect place to take our final walk through the Emerald Isle’s magical countryside. Our final night together before heading to flights out of Dublin includes ritualizing our time together and a celebratory dinner.
